Dr. Gail Weingast’s educational journey, the one that led to her current position as a world class radiologist, was both long and satisfying. That is why Dr. Gail Weingast is now a highly regarded radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. Dr. Gail Weingast is that hospital’s Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging. During her two decades there, she has brought her radiology department into prominence as one of the finest in New England.

While the path to her current position didn’t always follow a straight line, she values every aspect of her journey because it all made her the doctor she is today. That journey actually commenced in 1969, but it wasn’t always clear Gail Weingast wanted a career as a medical professional. The first phase of her education came at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. At their Jackson College, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, indicating that medicine wasn’t at the top of her career list at the time. That certainly changed soon after, though, because she attended the Boston University School of Medicine, and officially became Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976.

Long before Dr. Gail Weingast became a very prominent radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she serves as the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging, she gained as much education as she could. To say that her career path was a bit unusual seems obvious, but it’s all important, since every bit of her education and career experience has worked to make her the doctor she is today.

It wasn’t clear she would become a doctor at first. When she started school in 1969, the future Dr. Gail Weingast attended Jackson College, Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts, where she worked for and eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish.Soon after that, however, the medical field must have appealed to her, because she soon began attending the Boston University School of Medicine, where she became Gail Weingast MD in 1976. She then completed a pediatrics internship from 1976-1977 at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, Colorado, followed by a residency in pediatrics for the following two years. Dr. Weingast also completed a residency in the field of radiology from 1980 to 1983 and a fellowship in ultrasound in 1983. She also completed a post-graduate degree as a radiologist in 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver.

Following her extensive education, in the subsequent 30 years, Gail Weingast worked at several other hospitals, mostly in Colorado, but also in New York. That is, until she found and settled into her current position as a highly-regarded radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. She has been in that position or more than 20 years and is now the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging. With so much knowledge and experience, she has led her department to its current position as a premiere medical facility.
